Meet Judge Morgan

Judge Eric Morgan is currently in his ninth year as a Superior Court Judge, and has presided over jury trials and motions hearings across the State of North Carolina. Judge Morgan also serves on the Board of Directors of the National Courts and Sciences Institute (NCSI) and has past service as a Vice President of the Board of Governors of the North Carolina Bar Association.

Judge Morgan is a certified science resource judge in evidentiary and related issues arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, and he is a co-author of the North Carolina COVID-19 benchbook, which is available as a resource for the judiciary across the state.

Judge Morgan is a native of Forsyth County, and graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School.  After attending college at the University of Virginia (Phi Beta Kappa) and graduating from the University of Texas School of Law (with honors), Eric returned to Winston-Salem in 1991, to practice law with Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice.

While at Womble Carlyle, Eric practiced in the area of civil and commercial litigation, and he prosecuted felony child sexual abuse cases as a volunteer lawyer with the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office.

 

In 1994, Eric began his law practice in Kernersville.  After practicing law for 24 years, Eric was appointed in 2014 to serve as a Superior Court Judge by Governor Pat McCrory, and he was elected as a Superior Court Judge in 2016.

Eric and Dawn photo Town HallJudge Morgan and his wife Dawn have been married for 30 years, and have raised three children in Kernersville, where Dawn has served as Mayor since 2008.  Community involvement is important to Eric.  He has volunteered with Scouts and, as a member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville, has served as a Deacon and Trustee.
